Dealing With The Cold, Stinging Extremities In The Ways We Know
Words by Sean Moeller, Illustration by Johnnie Cluney, Recording engineered by Mike Gentry
There is one song in this SUNDOWNER session entitled, "The Slowest Drink In The Saddest Bar On The Snowiest Day In The Greatest City," but the slow drinks, the sad bars and the snowiest days are seemingly everywhere in Lawrence Arms' Chris McCaughan's songs.
The people trudging through them, looking out for ways to not sink into their doldrums so deeply, to be able to sift through all of their collateral damage and have it make sense to them, are dealing with cold, stinging extremities. They are living in stifling conditions that they've mostly arranged for themselves. They have been diligent in the construction of their misery, just as they've been diligent in the construction of their happiness, whenever they're lucky enough to spot it, to sip it.
