Playlist Description

After following Daytrotter for years, I finally got a subscription in April, 2013, and Wow! Immediately heard so much great, and new, music.

Doc Watson I listened to awhile ago, when I had a one week trial that I didn't take advantage of. Doc was an NC native, like myself, and I saw him perform several times, including once as a child. From the sound of it, a great many Daytrotter musicians were influenced by Doc as much as I was.

In April, when I started listening to Daytrotter for real (for pay), the first playlist I perused was the Best of 2012 songs. Being in Oregon, now, I also checked out Portland band Menomena, who were unexpectedly weird in a wonderful way. I of course had to check out the sessions from the bands I already knew and loved–Carolina Chocolate Drops, my friend Rhiannon's Grammy-winning band; The Watson Twins, who I first heard with Jenny Lewis; Elizabeth and the Catapault; The Cave Singers; Deerhunter; Dawes; and Emma Pollock of The Delgados.

Some other great finds in my first month of Daytrotter were Langhorn Slim, The Mowgli's, Youngblood Hawke, Haim, JENNY.O, Kopecky Family Band, Pearl and the Beard, Harriet, PAPA, The Milk Carton Kids, and Chelsea Wolfe–all of whom I liked enough to download their sessions. I'm also waiting to hear the final sessions from Zammuto and The Black Lilies, whose live sessions I really enjoyed.

Month two has been exciting so far, but no spoilers here. You'll have to check out the playlist, when I make it.
