Playlist Description

North Carolina has so much to offer musically, it's ridiculous. I moved back to the Triangle (or "the three kingdoms," as I call it) from Chicago in 2009, and I have won't hesitate to say that Daytrotter helped me connect to the state as much as the glories of nature. There neither is, nor need there be, any element of coherence among the acts that have called or do call the Old North State home.

Looking for hip-hop, rock, jazz, bluegrass, traditional, electronic, classical, singer-songwriter, folk, country, or any combination or permutation of those? Chances are you'll find it here, and hear it in a local club.

The state has a variety of venues, ranging from coffee-houses to bars and clubs, to the Durham Performing Arts Center and the magnificent Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw. Durham's got the Pinhook, Motorco, and the Casbah. Raleigh's got Kings and Slim's - on Thursday nights, it's Local Band Local Beer at Tig Na Nog. Chapel Hill-Carrboro is home to Cat's Cradle, Local 506, and the Cave. The Blind Tiger is in Greensboro and the Grey Eagle in Asheville, which is also home to one of the Daytrotter recording studios, Echo Mountain.

2012 is the third year for both Moogfest and the Hopscotch Music Festival. The latter will feature not only The Roots and Sunn 0))), but also a number of Daytrotter alums. The Mountain Goats, Megafaun, Zola Jesus, Danny Brown, Deerhoof, Wye Oak, Lambchop, G-Side, and Damien Jurado are just a few who'll be performing in Raleigh in early September.

NC has resources yet to be mined by Daytrotter. I live in hope for sessions by acts like Mount Moriah, Cesar Comanche, Greg Cartwright, Superchunk, Midtown Dickens, Mandolin Orange, and The Beast. A 9th Wonder DJ set would also do the trick!
