This is an obituary. Not for a band, but for a man who inspired a band name. The same sort of thing might happen when Abe Vigoda passes away. Oakley Hall, a Daytrotter two-timer from New York City, earned itself a mention in Western fiction writer Oakley Hall’s obituary in the New York Times yesterday. Hall, who helped define California literature after John Steinbeck was finished and whose book Warlock was a finalist for the 1958 Pulitzer Prize, died on Wednesday of cancer and kidney disease. Oakley Hall, the band, have adopted a hot gravel, eating peaches straight and fresh from the tree, barefooting and pond fishing sound that could easily be associated with the right portions of California — the kinds that Hall championed.
