The last song that Erin McKeown recorded for us way back a year ago this week (happy birthday recording!) — the Fats Waller classic “Honeysuckle Rose” — was telltale, an indication of what her next album was going to be all about before any other outsiders were privy to the scoop. The way she and Allison owned that dusty song made it clear that she was suited for such antiques. Her record of standards, Sing You Sinners, was pretty and inviting, but we’ve still got the one that didn’t get on the album.
