Without a doubt, this was an afternoon when the vision of what Daytrotter was meant to be took greater shape. Owen Ashworth’s Casiotone For The Painfully Alone project was injected with the back porch, beer buzz country, folk rock of buddies The Donkeys on a chilly, not yet spring day and a new thing was born. The Daytrotter idea of capturing bands as they were was shaken into a desire to force them into unfamiliar, but inventive circles where impossibilities are explored and the freshness becomes electric. This session — assisted by a bottle of the brown stuff — also introduced us to the great writers/people of Said The Gramophone. The great news is that Ashworth and The Donkeys will be back in July for an encore session. Good news all around. Here is the session that started it all
