tell your friends...
We started getting posters for our studio wall when Paleo left us a screen-printed sheet from his never-ending, year-long tour back in November. We put it up on the bare walls and it looked out of place so we started asking other bands if they had any posters of their own that they’d like to contribute to the decorative clutter. Sometimes we forget to ask, but we try not to. Phosphorescent’s offering features a topless woman – an obvious conversation piece one would assume. There are breasts – really nice breasts, right there, right there, right there. No one has remarked about that poster in the five months that it’s been hanging there. The only poster that’s garnered a mention is the poster that we received from Asobi Seksu on this day in late January (the 26 th of the year 2007). One out of every three or four bands through our door has posed the question, “Asobi Seksu recorded here?” There’s excitement and jealousy both in the query. The poster’s not pretty. It’s one that the band had used at its merch tables many nights in a row. Up in the top left corner, there is a slice of white tape with the universal price for albums and T-shirts written in Sharpie marker. It’s bent in places and kind of ugly. It’s tattered. What we’ve come to understand is that there’s something to this band, something like an aura. It’s nothing to be discounted or analyzed too much. It’s just there. This session was recorded the same day that our studio was invaded by three colleagues of mine from the newspaper (Quad-City Times) I daylight for. We’d had some substantial national press already to that point, but they couldn’t avoid us any longer, not that they were avoiding anything. We had a writer, photographer and videographer here that day and if you search the paper’s archives you’ll find the efforts from that afternoon of observational. To the YouTube! Or relative YouTube. – Sean Moeller
