To some degree we all have a soft spot for that authentic sound of rock and roll, the one that gets talked about by parents with a deaf ear to today who can be caught saying, “They just don’t make music like they used to,” every time anything circa now is played within their cringing, anti presence. We all have a place that has no choice but to be filled with precise harmonies and melodies that jumble reason. We love the jangle and relative freedom of a guitar sound that can be both a bridge and a wrecking ball, whacking us across the chest and giving us passage into a gated community where every day we could a world where Left Banke, the Mamas and the Papas, The Turtles, The Kinks and The Zombies would be collaborating together on a secret recipe that would knock every sock in the world off and into a neat little pile. Chicago’s M’s give reason to believe that such a magical place, where dragons and all of these bands exist as one, casually solving the world’s problems through succinct pop numbers, does exist. The good buddies of renown movie director Jonathan Demme and Wilco were running tardy when they paid Daytrotter a visit and the three songs were rushed into existence in less time than it would take you to get to the showcase showdown on Price Is Right. The songs have a hairy, snaggletooth quality to them that is a beautiful birthmark, offering a scruffiness that befits them in more ways than one. – Sean Moeller

Said lead singer Josh Chicoine: ”’Future Women’ was demo’d by Joey and I pretty much as it appears on the record. I came up with it in one of those moments of complete clarity of purpose and wrote it in about an hour. Then we just threw every idea at it that we could and some stuck. One of the most fun times I’ve ever had recording – clowning around.”

”’Never Do It Again’ and ‘Plan of the Man’ were songs that took several different attempts, arrangements and trials. I’m really glad we didn’t give up on these and I think the way they are now is pretty cool. Joey had the initial idea for NDTA and recorded a version that we all really dug, but couldn’t quite get the right feel down for a little while. Rob wrote the basic tune for ‘Plan of the Man’ and with that one, like NDTA, we all had to find our way to it. I’m pretty sure we did though and that’s why they’re on the record and a couple of the songs we most like to play live.”
