These are songs caught in the long shadows of the day. We slip within them and we're suddenly dipped in a chill that we didn't expect. We can get right back out of it quickly, but we linger in them, seeing how long it will take for our body temperature to fall to uncomfortable levels. They feel like parts of us - the kind that we recognize when we're standing around someplace in public and we have no one to talk to so we keep quiet and keep wrestling with the snakes in our head and heart. Daniel James makes us love the quiet days, just as much as the dangerous ones that he refers to here. They all form out of these shadows - the ones that we spot for ourselves, the ones that we like to try on.
