The Little Ones reflect on their South By Southwest blur:
“What a week. We actually arrived on Monday to do a pre-SXSW party. In all, I believe we performed a total of 9 times. However, several of those were radio things so it was at times only a few songs and/or acoustic. It was a bit of a marathon, but I think we still had leftover adrenaline from our UK stint that we just got back from a week prior. We had a pretty full schedule, so any down time was instantly used for rest. Greg got sick on day two, followed by Lee, then Ed. By mid-week the band was limping around Austin. I think I was the only one who managed to catch a few bands. I caught Peter, Bjorn & John at the little radio thing. I think we heard “Young Folks” almost every night on tour in the UK. Surprisingly, I didn’t want to wrassle up a 6-shooter to blow my brains out, but instead it was great to finally see them live. Later that day, whatever day that was, then again I guess SXSW is more like one GIANT ongoing day — anyhow, at some point during the gi-hugic one day blur that is SXSW, I later saw The Pipettes and The Rapture at La Zona Rosa. On our way to a BBC Radio 2 session, we were riding in two cars. While pulling up to their hotel both cars spotted Amy Winehouse walking toward the same hotel. We were debating a picture for shits n’ giggles, you gotta note though that she’s massive in the UK. Instead we proceeded to look away and then come very close to smacking her in the face (accidentally) with a keyboard. We were genuinely surprised to see her as we had heard rumors that all her SXSW shows were cancelled. We then turn around to see Wayne Coyne walking his dog. Very cute. BBC radio is super into asking bands to cover a top 40s song. Which I think is great. I mean you get to hear Magic Numbers covering Amerie or Arcade Fire covering Yeah Yeah Yeahs. So we did Lily Allen’s “Smile.” As I’m writing this I’m trying to find it on the World Wide Web. Either my Google skillz are the suck, or it no longer lives in cyberspace as it was only streaming originally. Darn. The Astral showcase was all sorts of fun and it was just generally nice to get to do a show that we weren’t racing across town to get to. The crowd was sweet and into it. We also played a couple new songs: “Oh My Morning Tide” and “O-A.” And hell, we got to play with Sparklehorse!!! Did you know NASA was there? Yeah, we managed to get a meeting in. Little sit down at a pub to kinda roundtable this LilOnez Jetpack idea we’ve been tossing around for some time now. Our peeps and their peeps are talking and we should have a prototype by the end of ’07 with something to show in early ’08. Mostly true story. On the final day, we performed at Filter’s High Noon and WOXY/Noise Pop back-to-back. All I can remember is that I still had sweat on me from the Filter party when going on at the WOXY party. So yeah, the band was a collective cocktail of perspiration. Lovely. Oh yeah, and somewhere in there we did some dayspotter? clotter? torentar thing…yeah they
were real assholes though :P Thanks for the tees!”
Oh, The Little Ones are real cut-ups. They were the very first band we recorded in Austin on March 13th. They arrived in two separate cabs after a hard night of free hard liquor at a corporate party and forgetting that they’d been thrown out of a strip club. It all came back to them in the hour and a half that they were with us. We love recollection. – Sean Moeller
First song
Cha Cha Cha (The Little Ones) [4.07MB] [2061 downloads]
Second song
Gregory's Chant (The Little Ones) [3.32MB] [1991 downloads]
— unreleased.
One of the first songs we wrote after the Sing Song sessions. Affectionately named after our drummer. Born on the stage and in the live setting rather than the studio. A realization that dueling tambourines is equally hard as it is fun.
Third song
Oh, MJ! (The Little Ones) [4.67MB] [1913 downloads]
– original version appears on Sing Song
A somewhat fictional account of a person striving with the drive to dance. Something I think most of us can relate to at an early age, though we did use our friend Moses as the primary character. It’s good fun and I think the video captures that nicely. If you feel compelled you should shuffle those feet and shake that ass.
Fourth song
Lovers who Uncover (The Little Ones) [3.95MB] [1986 downloads]
– original version appears on Sing Song
Nostalgia, chance encounters, intentions, action vs. words. And probably one too many claps and yeah yeah yeah eyah yeah eyahe eyahehahfkjhdsfsdjfs…

There is no doubt that The Little Ones are one of the best new bands out there. Excellent live. I recently caught them opening for The Walkmen and Kaiser Chiefs. They outshined both bands by a mile—there was no comparision. Good luck to The Little Ones…I’m sure they will not need much.
