Alela Diane Describes Her South By Southwest:
“My stay in Texas was an amazing, strange, and a very surreal experience for me — so many people, so much music, so much free ice cream, so much free everything, so many friends. Walking down a street and running into people I’ve known from cities all over the country was quite bizarre. Always trying to place faces to other associations outside of this Texas place. Nothing is quite real. Lots of trash. Dancing when no one is dancing. All walks of life walking together on 6th street. Singing a few times a day. Listening — hearing so many new things. Meeting people — forgetting names. Allergies and laugh crying with Mariee over Thai food. Feeling crazy. That was SXSW for me.”

The date was Thursday, March 15th. The SOUND Teamers didn’t use the morning hours for rehearsal so the very first face we were greeted with was Miss Diane’s. She was here at noon, as was her publicist/label man Matt Wright and Gorilla Vs. Bear’s Chris Cantalini, whom we were meeting for the very first time. Following her very casual and flawless performance, she was off to practice a set with her father – flying into town that afternoon – to play with her at the GvB showcase that we heard was magnificent. We loved her boots and everything else about her. Watch out world. – Sean Moeller
