All our thoughts, in the aftermath of this session, are the hours and hours Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears spent on the Daytrotter jingle you hear at the outset. According to the band’s tour manager George – he of the roadkill and updog jokes – it was quite the production and intensive rehearsal for the barbershop quartet rendition of the “Welcome to Daytrotter” tag in the band’s van the day prior to their visit on a Monday afternoon in June. They came from Chicago – where they played the night before — and they had obviously put in the time because there hasn’t been a more complete or spectacular rendition. It’s spot-on and yet they were disappointed with the sloppiness of it. We were having none of it. It’s a keeper. We sing it at quiet times around the studio and away from it, when there’s an extra hop in our steps. It cheers us up and we’re a little floored that they’d exert so much energy in making such a terrific tag for our little site. While White Rabbits – the second have of our recording doubleheader was setting up two drum kits and plugging in their various pieces of gear, the Scary crew retreated to its van parked outside for the photo shoot preparations. As MF Doom shan’t and can’t be seen publicly without his signature metal face mask, the Scaries needed their white, clown face paint to transform into their live, photographic personas – that of a count, an undead cowboy, ghostly professor and chimney sweep, etc. It took a good 35 minutes before all of the finishing touches were applied and they were ready, but the results were positively scary. It made us all thing of “Thriller” and that Phantom Planet video full of zombies. – Sean Moeller
