Bad Veins Blog -Tuesday October 6th

Oct 23, 2009

So allow me a moment to introduce myself. My name is Benjamin. I’m one half of Bad Veins. The other half is Sebastien. I guess that was my moment. Bad Veins is touring around the country through October with our pals The Subjects, and by around, without looking at a map I’m thinking that what we’re traveling is some sort of counterclockwise circle. In my head we’re actually driving a perfect circle, starting in the center, Cincinnati, our hometown. It’s actually so far from an accurate map that it’s kind of ridiculous. As I type this, I’m somewhere in between Pittsburgh, where we played last night, and Bloomington, Indiana, where we play tonight. I haven’t looked up and out the window to see the Midwest in quite a while, but I’m thinking that means we’re somewhere around….

Cincinnati. That totally screws up my circle.

I apologize in advance for my meandering tangential style of writing, or blogging, but not sorry enough to change my wandering ways. I was just thinking about my earlier wording “Bad Veins is”. I can never really figure out how that is supposed to work. Is it “Bad Veins are”? We are a duo, a collective, but have a single identity. Bad Veins is a band. Bad Veins are a band. The Subjects are our friends.

That was seems easy.

Back to the tour, so you now know that Bad Veins consists of Benjamin and Sebastien. There is a third person traveling with us, and I hope he can spend a few minutes here and there giving the reader another perspective on the touring life. His name is Kenneth, and I promise I won’t tell him to make us look cool. I hope he keeps the extremely embarrassing parts to a minimum, but I guess we’ll see.  And of course Sebastien will also be checking in with this blog. Maybe we’ll do a post a day until the end of the month. I think that sounds like a reasonable goal. So about Kenneth, he is a good friend of ours, and has been given the job of driver, merch seller, tour manager and motivator. Logistically, being in a band with only 2 people can be a nightmare.  With the driving, loading and unloading of gear, the actual performance, selling merchandise, more driving, filling out paperwork, making plans, scheduling interviews, booking hotels, did I mention the driving? Good God there is a lot of driving. Moving has replaced not moving.

So I’m very excited to be working with Daytrotter through October. They’ve always been insanely nice to us, and we’re honored that they’d consider us for their first effort at presenting a tour! For those who could barely follow my Edith Bunker style delivery of information. Daytrotter will be hosting a tour blog, and we’ll try to give readers an idea of what life on the road is really like. I guess it’s impossible to fail at this. Whatever we write will be what we’re experiencing. If Sebastien decides to dedicate an entire post to his favorite sports car, then people will know on what he is emotionally focused. That actually might happen.

And with that tease, I will return to living in the moment, as I figure out where the hell we are. Stay tuned.

-Ben
