tell your friends...
The argument, as it is likely to remain until the world explodes into sharp, flying, hot world pieces (it’s looking closer to that every day, isn’t it?) that boastfully states, “The west side is the best side,” will be seriously put to the test in less than a month when Maritime will be the judge of that, taking on that side of the country. They will leave pacifiers at home and will be forced to face a tougher crowd that they won’t be able to soothe with a warm bottle. Please enjoy the following quote from Wayne’s World involving legendary shock rocker Alice Cooper, a former standout cross country runner at the University of Oregon, before the Prefontaine years:
Wayne Campbell: So, do you come to Milwaukee often?
Alice Cooper: Well, I’m a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century.
Pete: Hey, isn’t “Milwaukee” an Indian name?
Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. In fact , it’s pronounced “mill-e-wah-que” which is Algonquin for “the good land.”
Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that.
It’s odd to me that a character named Pete serendipitously appears in this snippet of dialogue, but since Alice Cooper shared some Milwaukee history with us in this 1992 comedy, no one has been a bigger ambassador for the city of the Bucks and the Brewers quite like Maritime…and Ben Sheets and The Big Dog Glenn Robinson. You can throw the last two out as jokes. It’s no secret that Davey von Bohlen, Dan Didier, Dan Hinz and Justin Klug are the prime jewels of the city and the four people the mayor and its good people would save should the city catch on fire. I mean, these songs. They can do you some good. It also sounds like Didier is finding it impossible to free himself from the Venus flytrap that is every song Mike Skinner records. He is crack cocaine. Didier and von Bohlen check in with what they liked last week in the form of song. – Sean Moeller
Drummers first (Dan Didier)
The Streets – Memento Mori
”There’s something special about the idea that we all, one day, will die and I think that this song sums up my feelings towards that.”
Hot Chip – You Ride, We Ride, In My Ride
”This is a great summer time song for me. For some reason it makes me nostalgic for the days when I had no responsibility and could just ride around all day with friends.”
Sufjan Stevens – Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois
“I love playing this song really loud in my car especially driving at dusk. Hauntingly beautiful melody. Near perfect.”
Cat Power – Wild Is The Wind
”I’ve had ‘The Covers Record’ for awhile now, but for some reason this song just flew under the radar. It wasn’t until I was on a late night walk recently and it came on my iShuffle. I felt like the trees where going to engulf me and take me under. Really, this song can do that to you.”
Gnarls Barkley – Just A Thought
”I love the drum manipulation because it reminds me of Funkstorung, who I love. Again, I recommend playing this loud in the car.”
Second comes the singer, without a single explanation to be found (Davey von Bohlen)
