Girl Talk: He'll Provide The Red Bull

@ Roseland Theater (Music Fest NW)
This was originally supposed to be about The Cool Kids, but their show was cancelled, so I decided to stick around for the Master of Mashup. Curiously, I saw the Cool Kids breeze through security to see Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk play a mere hour after they were scheduled to perform. What gives? Anyways, Girl Talk killed it, as he always does, playing to an over capacity crowd at the Roseland.

As he came on the stage, Gillis provided a brief tutorial for the security staff who collectively could have beat the shit out of the Canadian Border Guard. Hired to preserve order for the Clipse show following, these guys looked like they would happily deck a scrawny “indie kid” and would thank Santa for the early Christmas gift. So, Gillis told the security staff that everyone there just wanted to dance and have a good time and to back off. When he was done talking to them, he proceeded to jump into the crowd and played his set from the front lines.

What ensued was a mass, full-on, Red Bull-laden dance, spasm, freak-out (does that make sense?) at its finest. As soon as Girl Talk jumped down from the stage, the sea of people swallowed him whole, sequencing track after track from the abyss, not to be seen until the security guards pulled him, now shirtless, out of the crowd at the end of the show.
