Robert Sarazin Blake sees his songs as "recitatives"—narrative portions of operas in which the singer adopts a speech-like inflection to move the plot along with style and speed. These narratives are told in a language unique to each song he plays. Whether it's the intense speed strumming of his faster songs or the jagged, improvisational vocal cadences of his ballads, there's something in each song that makes it as singular as each real human experience. Don't let the humble image of a one man band dissuade you from believing there is an immensity to Blake's songwriting. Regardless of scope, each song is drawn from a deep well of human understanding and experience. A song may begin with one man's introspection but by the end he could be singing loudly about world politics and issues that affect us all. Take some time away from your busy life to hear some stories that just might make it all easier.
